Media Representation

Summary
Representation refers to the construction in any medium (especially the mass media) of aspects of ‘reality’ such as people, places, objects, events, cultural identities and other abstract concepts. Such representations may be in speech or writing as well as still or moving pictures. The term refers to the processes involved as well as to its products.

My Definition

My understanding of 'Media Represntation' is that it is a way of representing the world through your own view and creating what will interest the audience. The media world is about taking realistic situations and changing them to your opinion in order to catch the audiences eye. For example having a slim model on a magazine cover, in media it is often known to airbrush the images to make the model seem close to perfect and almost flawless, which catches different audiences attention, i.e. women see her as an icon and aim to be as slim as her because she's percieved as 'the perfect size'. Men however look at the model and think she's attractive and have this idea that women should look like that. So Media Representation is representing media in a way that will capture an audience to believe what they think is reality.
